Blossoms, blooms and a happy surprise

Hello Folks and a very happy Sunday to you all.

Can you believe it is the 1st of March already? Hooray is what I say! I love March and it's promise of spring. New lambs and daffodils. Lovely. And also for me a rather special surprise. In January this year I was asked by Brenda to be the March guest designer for Penny Black and more challenge. Well you can imagine how excited I was.
The challenge this month is Blossoms and blooms and here is the card I made for my first ever guest designer spot -
I began by covering a 8 inch square card blank with a piece of brown core'dinations card. I then layered a piece of blue paper from Graphic 45's Botanical Tea paper pad onto it. I matted a floral paper from the pad onto another piece of brown core'dinations card and attached it to the card. I then cut a strip of pink spotted paper, punched one edge with a Martha Stewart blossoms punch and matted it onto a piece of brown core'dinations card. I wrapped a piece of velvet ribbon and lace (from the Ribbon Girl) around the border strip and then attached the whole thing to the card base with foam pads.
The image is Penny Black's Bountiful which I stamped with brown ink and then coloured with a combination of the following Spectrum Noir pens and pencils -

  • Hedgie - FS1, FS6, FS9, CR1, EB4, EB6, EB8, 009, 089 and 098
  • flowers - PP1, PP3, PP5, GB2, CT2, CT4, IG1, CG4, LG5, DG3, 047 and 031
  • butterflies - HB1, HB2 and HB3
  • ground - BG1 and BG3
  • sky - IB1

I cut the image out with a Spellbinder's grand decorative circles, inked with tumbled glass distress ink and then matted onto another grand decorative circle cut from another of the papers from the pad. I then attached the whole topper to the card with foam pads.
I stamped a sentiment using Lili of the Valley's happy circular sentiments and brown ink, cut it out with a Spellbinders circle nestie and then inked with tumbled glass distress ink. I cut two Spellbinder's sprigs from brown core'dinations and attached them to the card as shown. I then attached the sentiment with Pinflair. I cut 4 Spellbinder's Blossom 3, layered them up and then attached them to the card with Pinflair.
To finish I added some pink pearls to the corners of the card and the centres of the flowers.
